Mixed Signals

When pitching your venture, it is vital that you properly assess your surroundings. Hopefully prior to presenting your venture you've also done advance preparation.

Imagine yourself as a baseball pitcher on the mound and your audience as the batter. This is where we diverge from the baseball comparison (at least of a regular game). You need to think about pitching for a home run derby because you want your audience to connect with your pitch.

What does this mean in terms of how you present? It means you need to be aware of your audience and the cues you are picking up from their eye contact and body language. If you don't pick up on the signals, your pitch may miss connecting with your audience.

How do you avoid missing connections with your audience? You must create a variety of pitches you can pull from at will. Having a variety of pitches will allow you to adjust your presentation based a number of cues:

Mad Methods

What do you know about business methodologies? Are you currently using a specific methodology? Is it being utilized successfully within your organization? If not, what isn't working?

Perhaps you see where I'm going. There are many things to consider when choosing a specific approach toward progress within your venture. There are two important things to keep in mind.

  1. Using any methodology that lends structure is better than flying by the seat of your pants

NYU 2 CHS

We normally only cover local and regional news aside from our other articles. So why give a shout out to New York? Recently I connected with Dan DeVece from NYU on twitter. Dan is part of a program called MBAs Across America and his team is coming to Charleston from June 28 through July 3. The team is comprised of four recent MBA graduates from NYU Stern School of Business in New York City.

"We believe that the future of America lies in the hands of entrepreneurs, not just in New York and Silicon Valley, but in small towns and big cities far from the coast and away from the hype. That the future of business school is hands-on, on the ground, and must prepare a new generation to drive real progress. That the future of our society depends on those who dare to leave behind the well-worn path to seek a better world. So this isn't a road trip. It's a movement."

Quest(ion)

Great questions are vital to growth and innovation. So you must start asking questions to reach those outcomes. I don't believe in stupid questions (unless someone is deliberately causing problems). Many people don't ask their questions because they fear embarrassment and ridicule. Never stop asking questions.
