What's in Your Control?

If you have ever wondered to yourself how limiting a keyboard or a mouse can be, perhaps you should give Makey Makey a chance. It is an input kit that can help make everyone a creator or inventor. You can basically turn any object into part of your controller. The object resembles a regular Nintendo controller (think back to NES).

This is a perfect gift for any of the following: Artist, Developer, Maker or just someone with an imagination that loves retro video games. I recommend checking out their website before you buy one, because you might just want one yourself.

I think this could also be used in conjunction with a Raspberry Pi computer for some really interesting mash-ups. The great thing is both are low cost and yet could create something wonderfully useful, or at the very least inspiring to others.

Looking for Legal Documents?

As an entrepreneur or startup entity you will find yourself needing specific types of legal documents. You may know of several sites that provide some legal contracts and documents, but you may not find one that suits your specific needs. So hit the brakes for a minute on searching for legal documents and contracts online for just one minute.

Docracy is a wonderful resources that provides loads of documents geared toward startups. Are you looking for documents on how to legally structure your company? They have it. What about an agreement for a designer to create you a website or a logo? They have it. There is a wealth of documents that are constantly curated by the community and new documents are uploaded fairly frequently. You can even electronically sign documents back and forth between people and/or entities.

Need a One Off Instant Invoice?

If my last post about invoicing seemed more robust than you currently need, consider one-off almost instant invoices. You can quickly input your numbers and information and you can even add some slight customization to the webforms. Once you are done you can print them off or save them as PDF files, the choice is yours. Either way you'll have a quick invoice that still looks professional and doesn't consume a lot of your time to create.

There are two resources that are similar but may offer slightly different approaches. Check them both out and see which would better fit your needs.

  • Billable - I have used this resource a number of times myself. It is intuitive and clean.
  • Invoice-o-matic - I have recently found this resource. It seems very clean and intuitive as well. It offers a few settings that you can change like type of currency.

Looking for a Launch Page?

In need of a quick way to gauge interest in your idea or potential business venture? Are you trying to setup something quick and easy that doesn't require setting up an entire website? There is an answer. Quick launch pages let you get your message out as well as give you the ability to capture users to keep them informed as your idea and business develop.

There are two services that I am aware for posting up a quick launch page. I haven't used either, so I cannot speak to how they differ from one another, however, I think they are both worth exploring to help you quickly test the waters for customer interest. It appears that both services are free to use.

  • LaunchRock - This service is perhaps more widely known. It provides a quick way to build a launch page, share it among social networks, analytics to give you insight into who is looking and signing up for additional information.
  • Launch It Now - This service provides a comprehensive dashboard, a six step wizard to get you going and signing up users. It o…

Low to No Cost Invoicing & Management

Have you been looking for an invoicing or project management solution that doesn't break the bank of your bootstrap budget? Making a decision on where to spend a limited budget is something we all think about and struggle with as startups and entrepreneurs.

Well, I have assembled three different alternatives of low or no cost for invoicing and project management tools. Each tool offers a unqiue approach. Full disclosure is that I am not representing or suggesting one over any of the others. I believe they each have their place. I am not even currently using any of the platforms. I, myself, am still researching what will best fit my needs. Keep in mind these three tools are not the only options out there, but they are the ones that are the most friendly to the needs of small budgets.

These two tools are hosted online:

  • Orangebooks - Cost: Free (always 100%) - Unlimited Invoicing/Quotes/Statements, Online Payments/Payment Reminders, Data Security, Time Tracking/Project Management and Powerful Reporting.
  • Wav…
